![]() ![]() At this point its ready for a neck reset. The top on mine was a bit caved in, but Glenn Harrison at California Vintage found a loose brace inside, and when he glued it back up the top flattened out quite a bit. To Ron and all concerned: The flat top versions are 100% wood save the frets, tuners and tailpiece. One of the deluxe solidbodies was up for auction just a couple weeks ago).Ī big THANKS to all my friends, here and everywhere ! Harmony acquired Stella in 1939 or '40 (references differ) shortly thereafter the solidbody Hawaiian and the horseshoe pickup were no more (they do pop up on ebay from time to time, however. When did the 90-degree jack come into usage?). The jack was again rerouted to the side (I guess that's better than a cable plug sticking up in the way of your hands while you're trying to play the thing. The Deluxe one is the only one of these with a pickup that does not work. These were finished in a semi-metallic green (might it have been gold?) and had red and white painted binding and red dot markers as well as the larger Stella logo (as seen from WWII up until the mid-50s) on a slightly differently shaped headstock. #1937 SLINGERLAND SONGSTER SERIAL#Every one I have seen has a stamped in serial number, presumably sequential. Here's a closeup of the headstocks, note the Stella insignia, stamped into the wood then painted in:Īnd the back of the headstock. They are identical save the painted on binding (looks like an amateur repaint, appears to be a smaller line painted underneath) and the triple dots at the 12th fret on #1416 (the jack was relocated to the side as well). The solid bodied Hawaiian models #1492 and #1416, in their original cases. Obviously taller than the Ricky horseshoes but the magnets are nowhere near as wide. ![]() I suspect it may have been produced after Harmony took over, it is the only one that does not have the Kluson Saf-T-String tuners also there is no serial # on it, all the others have serial nos. #1937 SLINGERLAND SONGSTER FULL#The brown one is more typical 3/4 size body but again with a full scale neck. The black Stella serial # 131 has a half-size body with a full 25" scale neck fitted to it (what a great idea! Probably inspired by the Ricky Bakelites). Went to the closet and started taking new pictures: I posted a couple pics in another thread a couple days ago, but thought it better to start a new thread rather than hijack the older one. ![]()
